Tracking Modifiers & Correcting Tracking Orientation
Section 12. Tracking Modifiers & Correcting Tracking Orientation.
Each positional tracking component used in ARFX has universal modifiers that are available for you to use. These modifiers are used to help correct directional tracking errors that may occur due to limitations in your calibration process, such as going horizontally to the left of the screen and being registered as a right movement, inverted up/down movement, and so on. In some extremes, the axes themselves may be swapped. These options are here to help fix these problems.
These modifiers are found in their own subsection in the Details panel when you’ve selected your tracking component.
Negate Positions - Negates all positions of your trackers, effectively inverting them.
Flip X - Flips the X-axis (Forward is now Back, and Back is now Forward).
Flip Y - Flips the Y-axis (Right is now Left, and Left is now Right).
Flip Z - Flips the Z-axis (Up is now Down, and Down is now Up).
XYZ to ZYX - This reassigns the XYZ coordinates to ZYX (Forward/Back will now be Up/Down and vice-versa).
XYZ to XZY - This reassigns the XYZ coordinates to XZY (Up/Down will now be Right/Left and vice-versa).
Section 12.1 How to Correct Tracking Axis Orientation
You are tracking and have calibrated, but when moving in fixed directions, the movement is not being matched on the screen; what steps do you take? Use the following points:
Section 12.2 How to correct tracking
When doing any of the points below, be sure to disable all the other modifiers and recalibrate between each test so you do not get confused.
If, when you move the device forward/back, you get up/down, enable XYZ to ZYX Coordinates.
If, when you move the device right/left, you get up/down, enable XYZ to XZY Coordinates.
If, when you move the device forward/back, you get the opposite movement, enable Flip X-Axis.
If, when you move the device right/left, you get the opposite movement, enable Flip Y-Axis.
If, when you move the device up/down, you get the opposite movement, enable Flip Z Axis.
It is a trial-and-error process, but once you find the settings that work for you, be sure to write them down somewhere so as to reuse the same settings going forward.
Important
You can avoid having to use these modifiers completely by calibrating the screen correctly. However, not all tracking solutions are capable of doing so right away. Please refer to the tracking solution of your choice for more information
